Starting with a framework of analysis, we further assess "social learning", "ICT tools" and the different national approaches to participation. In parallel to this work, the case studies will be conducted. 17 teams from Belgium, Germany, France, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom will carry out the case studies in the nine respective countries. The case studies function as a means of gaining a deeper understanding of participatory processes needed to implement the European Water Framework Directive. A separate work package "integration" will guarantee the logical flow and connectivity between different work packages and will further lead to the publication of a handbook and dissemination of project findings.
